“Don’t aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally” – David Frost
“Stop seeing the obstacles you face as reasons why you can’t do something. See them as a reason why you can. And celebrate your accomplishments on a daily basis” – Ali Vincent, Believe It, Be It: How Being the Biggest Loser Won Me Back My Life, 2009
This week’s The Declaration of You tour topic is… “SUCCESS”
Share – the love! Shout your successes and achievements from the rooftops!!! I know it can be hard to give a little self praise but there’s no shame in doing so, you put the hard work in so why shouldn’t you pat yourself on the back when you’ve done well?! Credit where credits due! Blog about it, tweet about it, get in touch with companies, anything that can help push your success further. Also, if anyone (like charities) can benefit from your success help them out, it’s good to give back – for example you could volunteer in a youth club and share your artistic skills.
Utilise – all the new contacts you have made from the projects you’ve succeeded from, this is the time to shine and keep that “success” spotlight on you now – it’s only onwards and upwards from here!
Celebrate – this is kind of like “sharing” your success but in a different way. It’s really important to just stop for a second and look at how far you’ve come on your journey to success and do something special to remember that moment – you can celebrate by buying yourself something new or going out to a nice restaurant for dinner. Milestones can be difficult to reach so every time we meet one of our goals we should CELEBRATE!
Congratulate – yourself and anyone that has helped you along the way to success. Remember to never forget the little people that helped you along the way to stardom!
Enjoy – the moment(s), this can be hard especially when you just want to work even harder towards your next big success but, take in every moment of happiness you are feeling from this to help you solider on when times get tough in other projects and commitments.
Sacrifices – I’m pretty sure your success didn’t come with a few sacrifies, we all have to make them along our journeys so, revisit some of the things you had to put off while you was working hard (see the SELF-CARE post) – may be you didn’t get to spend quality time with your loved ones or self neglect (not eating well/ not working out).
Stay – humble! It’s so easy to let the success get to your head and develop an ego but that’s really not pretty in any way. Just remember all the hard work you put into achieving your goals and how you felt every time someone made you feel like they had an ego – so don’t do it to anyone else. (I’m not sure if you noticed but I kinda ran out of inspiring words that begin with “S”)!
I guess everyone measures success in their own ways…So what does success mean to me???
1) to be doing the things I love in life (surface pattern design ALL day long)
2) to be making money from my talents
3) setting goals and achieving them
4) learning from my mistakes and failures (hindsight is a wonderful thing!)
5) accepting that my path and destiny in life are different to other peoples and I will become “successful” when the universe and God wants me to be
What does the word SUCCESS mean to you? Don’t know what to write about? Feel free to use these prompts to get you started! Or, if you’d like to take a different route, you could create a video, a painting, a comic strip, a collage… anything that relates to the topic at hand!
